Excessive Sweating

What is Excessive Sweating?

Excessive Sweating also known as hyperhidrosis is a common problem that affects around 1.53 million people in the UK. The ones affected will know all too well about this condition. Excessive sweating can either be generalized or localized to specific parts of the body, although armpits, feet, hands, and the groin area are the most common due to the high concentration of sweat glands. However, any part of the body may be affected by Excessive Sweating.

Excessive sweat can have a very negative effect on the person especially in social settings, often leaving them with low self esteem. As a result those effected can feel very isolated and alone in their condition.

There are two different types of excessive sweating, both equally as unpleasant. The focal hyperhidrosis tends to give the person an excessive sweating episode at least once a week. Focal hyperhidrosis occurs in otherwise healthy people. It affects one or often more body areas, such as the palms, armpits, soles or face. Whereas Generalized hyperhidrosis involves the entire body and is usually part of an underlying condition or cause.
